Basic Halliwick Course

This course familiarizes participants with the basic principles of the Halliwick Approach and consists of      32-40 study hours.

The course is designated for anyone wishing to learn the Halliwick approach.  Participants must be able to work independently in the pool and have basic swimming skills.

 

Course Objectives

The course is designed to offer aquatic instructors knowledge and mastery of the following:

  • Characteristics of water and its impact upon the human body when immersed in water

  • Attaining independence in the water using the  ten points of the Halliwick Approach

  • Methods for supporting swimmers/patients and correct water safety rules

Learning Objectives

  • Understanding the characteristics of water and the impact upon the body when it is immersed in water

  • Familiarity with the ten points of the Halliwick Approach

  • Applying the basic skills of the ten-point program and demonstrating their ability on a qualified person

  • Demonstrating capability of applying the ten points as an objective during activities/songs in the water

  • Displaying basic knowledge of problems in controlling body rotations in the water and capability of identifying balance problems among swimmers with disabilities

  •  Administering correct handling of the swimmer including proper support during any situation in the water 

Course Format

The course consists of four days that include theoretical lectures and practical exercise in the pool.

Participants will receive preparatory reading material before the course begins.

Course Requirements

  • Participants must be present for the entire duration of the course.

  • Students must actively participate in exercises in the pool.

  • All participants must actively complete the final assignment.

 

Students who fulfill all the course requirements will receive a certificate from the International Halliwick Association.
